How to contain terrorism?
During a grave crisis we need to bond strongly to find a speedy and lasting solution. A minister sitting in the parliament cannot be expected to go to ground zero to counter such acts. Peoples? participation is need of the hour.
IT’S DIFFICULT time. Post 9/11(USA), 10/30 (Guwahati, Assam, India) and 11/26 (Mumbai, India), a deep introspection is the need of the hour. We must ponder how acts of terrorism, of a proportion that beggars description, could be contained.

Terrorist activities are termed as organised, syndicated crime. The ground level perpetration is effected by individuals, who are somehow or the other motivated for the final strike in a solitary manner or sometimes split in small groups (of two or so members).

It’s certainly a Herculean task for the security forces to keep eye on everyone frequenting the roads, public places or any other mode of conveyance every split second of the day. Even the largest and the strongest force anywhere would not be able to do such a job.

After a terrorist strike all political groups and individuals, spring up to strike the most vicious blow on their rivals. Blame game begins. The ruling system has to bear the deadliest brunt. Given the task of dealing with the volatile situation of carnage and huge genocide, the critics are demanding resignation from the government. It would be interesting to view the crisis from the ringside.

During a grave crisis all the right thinking men need to build up a strong bond to find a speedy and lasting solution and also to assuage the brunt felt by the victims of such fanaticism. A minister sitting in the parliament cannot be expected to go to ground zero to counter such acts. There are well organised mechanisms set up to deal with such situations directly.

The duty of the ministers, elected by the people, is to be genuinely engaged in formulating people-oriented policies for the well being of the society and also to inspire the ground workers to render their services with a sense of the country before self. This can only be achieved by honest persons and never by corrupt ones, engaged in amassing all kinds of wealth for their future generations to come. This needs to be taken note of seriously.

In order to achieve a secure social scenario what needs be done is to inspire the people at individual level, to keep vigil of his vicinity to be able to detect any kind of shady person(s) or activity. They should alert the official setup to undertake appropriate action. This will go a long way in containing any kind of unlawful activities, including terrorism.

What is needed is a very strong will on the part of the people in the corridors of power, irrespective of their ideologies. They must be keep in mind that whatever be their ideology, it’s for the well being of the masses – every single human being.

The hoi polloi send their representatives to the temple of governance with the hope that their lot would someday be transformed for the better. The elected representatives should consider governance as nothing short of worship for real transformation to take place. But sordidly enough, over the decades, not much of improvement has been seen. Time is dire, now. The society is on the brink of a total collapse, comparable to the doomsday situation.

The powers that be must now rise as a saviour of the society and save it from the deluge of explosions and other terrorist activities happening everyday. Policies must be formulated by the representatives of the people, but in doing so they must remember their limitations and take the help of intellectuals, social scientists, thinkers and people from every walk of life. These policies, after being formulated, must be implemented through the agencies of the government with active support of the man on the street. To inculcate this sense of support in the public mind, the people at the helm of affairs must prove their genuine will and also honesty and integrity to the core. Such an action plan, involving peoples’ participation would certainly bring new hope!
