How to link and update Aadhaar Card online for NRI visa?
The Aadhaar Card carries biometrics and demographic data of an Indian citizen. That's why the visa and passport authorities accept it as a proof of identity and a proof of address.

You might have lost your previous mobile number. Or perhaps, your Aadhaar Card data might be offbeat. It's noteworthy that after 15 years of age, you have to get it updated every 10 years. So, it's possible that you may want to link and update your authentication card.   

What does an Aadhaar Card have?

It's a unique ID of 12-digit. The UIDAI (a competent authority) issues it after cross checking a wide range of documents, listed under the Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA). It carries demographic and biometric information of an Indian citizen. As far as demographic data and biometrics are concerned, this card registers:

  • Biometric data: Name, address, date of birth/age, gender, mobile number, email address, relationship status and information sharing consent
  • Demographic data: Scanned data of Iris, fingerprints and facial photograph

How can you link and update it for getting NRI visa?

  1. Through the internet: The seeker can apply for editing name, address or whatever detail in the card by self. He can opt for the online mode. It involves a hierarchy of steps, including login with a registered mobile number; verifying it through OTP and uploading the support POA or POI documents. Subsequently, the verification will go on at the backstage by the UIDAI officials.

It's compulsory that you should have the active mobile number that was integrated during enrolment. Otherwise, your access will be denied.

  1. From the Permanent Enrolment Centre (PEC): If you want to update a new mobile number into it, you have to visit the PEC in person. The verification officer will crosscheck and verify in three modes:
  2. Update Client Standard: Scan biometrics for a check at the backend.
  3. Update Client Lite: Authenticate biometrics for updating data.
  4. Update through AUD Point of Presence Biometric authentication for seeking demographic data using the mobile number of the candidate.

Hundreds of visa seekers place a request for the enrolment or the update in the Aadhaar Card. It proves handy to get through the visa authentication and its interview to attain the status of an NRI.

When do you require changes in the Aadhaar Card? 

  1. After matrimony, the girl has to shift her place to a newer location. So, the update is needed to be done.
  2. Shifting a residence and death are also the reasons to make changes in it.
  3. If there is an error or discrepancy in the birth certificate, Non-Availability of Birth Certificate (NABC) or any marriage certificate, it can help in applying for the correction in those certificates.
  4. In order to change the local language, it needs to be upgraded.
  5. The UIDAI procures information about the availability of POI, POA and NRI visa at the time of enrolment.

When do you require upgrading Aadhaar details?

  1. When the child turns 5, the child's parents apply for the update. And, the UIDAI official treats it as a method of de-duplication. He takes this request as an enrolment for a new Aadhaar card.
  2. The second update occurs when the child is in between 5 years and 15 years of age. This second phase update requires biometrics data of the child to integrate with.
  3. Thereafter, the ward should visit the Permanent Enrolment Centre every decade for revising the data.
  4. Accidents or diseases can lead to instinctive manipulation of biometric details. So, the candidate should visit the centre for updating it.
  5. Sometimes, the technical errors deny accepting the biometrics. It is called the authentication failure. It happens because of poor scanning at the time of enrolment. So, the candidate should visit the requisite centre for capturing better quality biometrics in the CIDR.
  6. The UIDAI may conduct a quality audit. It helps the authority to decide a threshold. Once it's decided, the UIDAI issues a circular for revising the biometrics.  

The 12-digit unique identity number or Aadhaar Number is an asset to get a passport. It's a composition of biometrics, name, address, date of birth, phone number and email address of its holder. That's why the Passport Sewa Kendra (PSK) accepts it as a vital document for verification of the passport applicant.
