ALL SURPRISES for all HP fans as Hewlett-Packard has made a new announcement, HP will buy Palm and its webOS operating system for $1.2 billion, or $5.70 a share. With this new deal of getting into mobile phones, the smart phones will be smarter as HP will acquire an operating system, intellectual property and handset designs.
Palm's chairman and CEO, Jon Rubinstein said, "We're thrilled by HP's vote of confidence in Palm's technological leadership, which delivered Palm webOS and iconic products such as the Palm Pre. HP's longstanding culture of innovation, scale and global operating resources make it the perfect partner to rapidly accelerate the growth of webOS". "We look forward to working with HP to continue to deliver industry-leading mobile experiences to our customers and business partners."
However Palm's current chairman and CEO, Jon Rubinstein, is expected to remain with the company as he has given a lot to the company. Even HP’s biggest rival, Dell, is getting ready to launch an Android-powered smartphone later this year, so it will be a tough competition for both the PC makers to survive in the market.
