HUDA and MCG head swap designations: What do Gurgaon Councillors and Mayor have to say?
In a strange move by the Haryana government, HUDA chief Praveen Kumar and MCG head PC Meena were asked to swap designations. Although both the officers worked really well in their respective offices, the swapping means stalling of work at the ground level leading to confusion among councillors in Gurgaon, who are answerable to the citizens. This move, which was touted political would ultimately effect Gurgaon's development. The councillors, when asked about the move had some interesting things to say.
Nisha Singh, councillor of Ward 30 said, ''The only silver lining in the whole thing is that Praveen Kumar has been in Gurgaon for 2 years and that the city is not new to him. But as for MCG, this is the third or fourth commissioner in the last six months and how can anyone do anything concrete in such a small time frame, is the big question. As for my work, I had communications and mails regarding various issues in my ward. Now all those issues would take a back seat and work will get affected. Because of such moves, files do not move and decisions are not taken.''
MCG heads have changed often this year. Vijay Singh Dahiya, C Prakash, Ashok Sagwan, PC Meena have already been changed and now Praveen Kumar would head the MCG office. Mahesh Dayma, Councillor of Ward 32 Gurgaon when questioned, laughed and said, ''Work will continue irrespective of all the changes in the top level. Both the officers in question have done good work in their field and I am sure they will work well in their new offices. However, development gets affected and problems do arise because of frequent changes in the top management.''
Mangat Ram Bagri, Ward 10 Councillor praising both the officers said, ''Both the officers are very good at what they do and we will tackle problems, when and if problem arises. For now, we have got good people in both the offices.''
Khajan Singh, Councillor ward 22 pointed out that both Praveen Kumar and PC Meena know Gurgaon inside out. Adding to this, he said, ''Although, they know the city but this transfer takes a toll on the development process of the city. Delays happen as every individual work in their own manner but if the offices are changed then new adjustments have to happen, which again takes time. Thus problems take more time to get sorted out. Having said that, I would like to add that both officers have done a commendable job in their respective offices.''
Many said that the transfer was due to a fallout between Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh and CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. However, when the Mayor of Gurgaon was questioned whether the move was a political one, Vimal Yadav said, ''It is not a political move essentially, but I must agree that it is more or less affecting development of Gurgaon. Both the officers know the situation of the city, the problems that they need to tackle, so they will work accordingly.''
