Winter session of the parliament is set to witness a high drama as government reiterates its resolve to pass the Lokpal bill. While the opposition parties might castigate the govt. over a trail of scams, media must be hoping for an action-packed day.
APART FROM the ambitious food security bill, a slew of anti-corruption legislations are included in its agenda for the winter session of parliament that was unveiled Wednesday. Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal said the session will have 21 listings that include several anti-corruption bills besides the Lokpal bill, whistle blower protection bill, judicial standards and accountability bill."Government is determined to pass the (Lokpal) Bill... Government stands committed to root out corruption. It may not be done through one law," ProKerala News quoted Bansal.
Other anti-corruption bills slated for introduction include prevention of money laundering amendment bill and electronic delivery of services bill. Bansal said the government was of the view that Lokpal bill cannot be an all-encompassing bill and a slew of measures were required to fight corruption. He said a single bill will lead to "huge bureaucracy" and it will not serve the purpose, according to Prokerala news. Citizen’s right to grievance redress bill is also believed to be brought in the winter session. The government is giving final shapes to the bill that might end day to day corruption.

To the open eyes, the slew of anti -corruption bills seem as a part of efforts by the government to show its commitment to fight corruption. They are mainly seen to offset the attack of Team Anna over Lokpal bill and the opposition attack over 2G and Commonwealth Games. While Anna has threatened a hunger strike again, if the winter session fails to pass the Ombudsman bill, the parliament is set to witness massive drama.
Opposition parties have a long list of issues to corner the government that is being seen as ‘corrupt and weak’. Opposition parties, mainly BJP might even stall the proceedings, in the wake of putting pressure on the government to pass the Lokpal bill. Congress shall have to heat the face on the 2G scam and Commonwealth Games scandal. Media would find itself in a green pasture as MP’s turn up in the well of the house, shouting slogans against the Congress –led UPA government.
