Humour is one of the nine 'rasas' of life. It is linked with the provision of relief from daily stress and reduces tension and related problems. It is an invaluable blessing of the Almighty, and we must respect the gift and use it often.
GOD HAS endowed us with smiles and laughter. Non-humans do not have this blessing. Smiling and laughing don’t cost anything. These activities just bring happiness and peace of mind. But even then most human beings do not have a smiling face; they also do not smile when required.
Similarly, when laughter is needed, they keep absolutely mum. In fact, these two virtues are reflex actions that are automatically generated in the given circumstance, but we quite often control these reflex actions in the name of quietness. Smiles also bespeak many unsaid things. One can say a lot through this powerful mechanism. Smiling and laughter are parts of humour which is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. The term is derived from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as humours control human health and emotion. People of all ages and cultures respond to humour.
The majority of people are able to experience humour, i.e., to be amused, to laugh or smile at something funny, and, thus, they are considered to have a sense of humour. The hypothetical person lacking a sense of humour would likely find the behaviour induced by humour to be inexplicable, strange, or even irrational. Humour is, in fact, decided by taste, and the extent to which a person will find something humorous depends upon a host of variables like geographical location, culture, family surroundings, kinds of friends, level of education, intelligence, context, and maturity. Humour is, in fact, a mystical experience, and can not be explained; it is a mystery. Humour-induced behaviour provides healthy and spiritual life. In fact, the western humour theory begins with Plato who attributed to Socrates the view that the essence of the ridiculous is ignorance in the weak, who are thus unable to retaliate when ridiculed. Later, in Greek philosophy, Aristotle suggested that an ugliness that does not disgust is fundamental to humour. In ancient Sanskrit drama, Bharat Muni’s Natya Shastra defined humour (h?syam) as one of the nine nava rasas, or principle rasas (emotional responses), which can be inspired in the audience by bhavas, the imitations of emotions that the actors perform. Each rasa was associated with a specific bhava portrayed on stage. In the case of humour, it was associated with mirth (hasya). Humour is subtle when it is not easy for everyone to understand it. It is difficult to detect or grasp by the mind; For example, a subtle smile is so slight as to be difficult to detect or describe. It is that quality of the imagination which gives to ideas an incongruous or fantastic turn, and tends to excite laughter or mirth by ludicrous images or representations; In other words, subtle humour means that you find things amusing that a lot of people don't. When you tell a joke, or when you find something funny, you generally don't show a lot of dramatic outward signs that you think it's funny.Whether that's good or bad is in the opinion of the person saying it. In fact, there is a very delicate difference between humour and subtle humour, and it is not easy for everyone to differentiate between the two. Humour is also linked with provision of relief in this hard life. It reduces tension and stress. Good humour has to be linear in terms of its linkages with what is being talked about. When there is a debate on a certain issue, a humorous remark or comment has to be linked with that issue. For example, if someone asks you a question on what has been discussed, your answer could be that it was really a good question and a good question is that which has no answer. In such a case, people around you would laugh and enjoy your comment. If there is a debate on inflation, and someone asks a question on an issue that is not linked with inflation both directly and indirectly, then the question becomes non-linear. In this case it becomes out of place and loses all its charm. There is a formula which can help you to keep healthy and fine. This also includes humour and subtle humour: Have a look: “Eat Half of What You Normally Eat, Sleep Twice of What you Normally Sleep, Drink (Water) Thrice in Amount that You Normally Drink, Get Involved in Humour Four Times of What You Notmally Do”.. There is nothing like smiles and laughter in life. These are invaluable blessings of the Almighty, and we must, therefore, respect these gifts and use them quite often.
