Hundreds of DOEACC students take exams amidst curfew in Kashmir
The college has announced that the admissions in new courses which include 'A' and O Level course in Information technology, language courses, hardware and software courses and other IT allied courses would commence from October 15 to November 15.
AMIDST TIGHT curfew hundreds of Information Technology (IT) students appeared in the annual DOEACC examinations held in Bandipora 57 kms away from Srinagar in Kashmir.

The examination is being conducted by NCPUL and DOAECC and Ministry Of Human Resources Development (HRD) New Delhi and NCPUL in its recognised center-Bandipora College of Information technology amidst tight curfew imposed by state government to foil the protest march announced by the separatist leader, Sayed Ali Shah Geelani. The exam commencing from 11th October will continue till 18th October.

Students came from as far off as Gurez, Uri, Lolab, Tulalil, Poonch, Havelli, Karnah, Sopore and other remote villages of Bandipora to take the exam. Talking to the media, Nazir Ahmed from Arin said the exam was easy and on expected lines and we appreciate the DOEAC's administration and efforts for having organised such an examination for the upliftment of the state. Candidates and their parents, however, cribbed about the postponement of the test earlier due disturbance in state.

About three hundred students from far flung areas succeeded in reaching the exam hall despite curfew orders, said authorities at the DOEACC center while talking to this scribe. It was hard and difficult to conduct exam in this situation but the task was completed in association with DOEAC and the state government, they added.

From 11th June all the educational institutions in the valley including Universities, Colleges, Schools and IT centers were closed due to protests and curfew orders. It was only after the intervention of Home Minster P. Chidambram the state government headed by youngest Chief Minster Omar Abdullah succeeded in opening few educational institutes in rural areas. However, most of the institutes are still closed fearing attack by extremists.

Meanwhile, students have also complained of harassment by the CRPF and police officials. The students claimed that they were harassed on the way to examination hall. It is pertinent to mention that the state government issued strict orders to consider exam hall tickets as curfew passed but forces did not pay any heed to the orders passed by the government.

Talking to this scribe, Director of BCIT (a DOEACC Center in Bandipora) said “We ply special buses pm various routes to pick up the candidates to avoid any damage amidst curfew and stone pelting”. He further thanked the authorities for having lent their support for the smooth conduction of the examination.

Director of BCIT, Fayaz Ahmed Fayaz constituted vigilance committees to ensure transparent conduct of the examination. Moreover, the college has announced that the admissions in new Courses which include "A' and O Level course in Information technology, language courses, hardware and software courses and other IT allied courses would commence from October 15 to November 15.

Meanwhile, the college  has invited applications for various scholarships for regular candidates for the year 2010-11. The desired candidates can collect and submit scholarship forms at the office of PRO BCIT after having attested them by concerned department chairman by October 30.
