Sunrisers is the new IPL franchise from Hyderabad owned by Chennai-based media and television group, Sun TV Network. The name and the logo (eagle soaring high) of their team was unveiled in a grand function held at Hyderabad on Thursday.
THE TEAM will be coached by Tom Moody and mentored by two former Indian players, Kris Srikkanth and VVS Laxman. One notable absentee during the function was VVS Laxman who could not make it due to personal reasons but former players such as Shivlal Yadav and Venkatpathy Raju were present along with officials from
Hyderabad Cricket Association.
Deccan Chargers was Hyderabad's
IPL franchise since 2008 and the Sunrisers have decided to take in 20 players from Deccan Chargers, which includes players such as Kumar Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, Jean-Paul Duminy, Shikhar Dhawan,
Ishant Sharma among a list of many. Deccan Chargers were thrown out of the IPL after the franchise failed to hand over Rs 100-crore bank guarantee to the BCCI.
The IPL franchise is expected to get active when the auctions are held in January 2013. It is at this juncture, where Tom Moody, Srikkanth, Laxman and the top brass of the franchise needs to put their thinking cap and select players who would bolster their squad. Most importantly, they would be eying international players, as they do not have many in their present squad who could make a major difference. It could be best suited if they choose some good Pakistan players, who are expected to be in the market for the next edition of the IPL.
