Hyderabad: IT growth slow in two-tier cities
Hyderabad is a hub for IT industry. But the state's two-tier cities are very deprived, when it comes to this industry. This besides the fact that thousands of software professionals are produced by these cities every year.

THE SOFTWARE industry in Andhra Pradesh is not extending to other two tier cities, though the government claimed it is committed to it. Every software company, which is coming to the state is showing interest in establishing their campuses or units in Hyderabad only, because good infrastructure facilities are available here.

The first and the foremost drawback of the other cities like Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada the fact that these cities do not have international airports. Visakhapatnam is said to be one of the fastest growing cities of the country. But in software sector, it has not registered any growth. Though one or two companies like satyam and wipro have opened their campuses by the initiatives of government, no other significant improvement in the situation is seen.

If we come to Vijayawada, it is being neglected by all governments for the last five decades. More than half of AP produced software engineers come from Vijayawada. The coastal districts, particularly, Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari and East Godavari are economically strong and are called rich belt of the state. These districts have more than 60 engineering colleges, which produce thousands of software professionals every year. It would not be an exaggeration to say that half of the software professionals from AP, working in America, are from this region.

After realising all these facts, the state government wanted to develop Vijayawada as an IT centre. Some work has been done by the government but the efforts have yielded no fruits so far. In Vijayawada, IT towers are being built worth Rs350 crores, near by Gannavaram airport, but the construction lacks pace. Atower is being built by L&T company and according to the latest information available, the first tower would complete by the year end. The remaining four towers will take four more years to complete. The other problem of this city is not having good air connectivity even on the domestic level.. Other cities like Warangal, Tirupati, Guntur are cannot even think about IT growth.
