I am working as a commissioner and I am not here to please people: Praveen Kumar
The BJP recently wrote to the Election Commissioner, asking for a transfer of Praveen Kumar, MCG Commissioner, Gurgaon. The BJP district general-secretary Kulbhushan Bhardwaj alleged that Kumar has given out some information to press, which can effect the Lok Sabha elections. Rubbishing all claims, Praveen Kumar said, “ I am not here to tow anyone's line. They might give me suggestions, but to think and decide what to do is on me. I am working as a commissioner and I am not here to please people. At the end of the day, good work and the development of the city will count.”
Mangat Ram Bagri, Councillor of Ward 10, Gurgaon, said that he can't comment on the matter because of the elections, but then alluded that if Kumar is transfered he would not have any problem. Tejpal Tanwar, District President of Gurgaon, however, gave a fuller picture of the jigsaw puzzle. Talking about the news in the press, he said, “ If the upper authorities think this is the right way then I am with them. As for Praveen Kumar, he doesn't listen to anyone and does work his own way. He wants to run a monopoly in Gurgaon. Since he knows that he has the Chief Minister's and the Congresses support in the matter, he does whatever he wants. Politics is happening here and we want to stop it.”
Kumar on the other hand has talked to the media about the various developments, which he has made for the past two and a half months. In an official mail, he has enlisted 77 developmental works worth over Rs 31 crore that had been undertaken by the state government for which tenders were allotted.
This is not the first time that the BJP and Praveen Kumar are up against each other. At the beginning of March, Mayor of Gurgaon, Vimal Yadav held a press conference and alleged that Kumar on Bhoopinder Singh Hooda's directions destroyed a commercial building co-owned by Yadav and senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra.
Only time will tell, whether the story would progress and who would finally go down in the tussle of power.
