IAC halts traffic on Aarey Milk colony road
India against Corruption (IAC), Mumbai volunteers decided to protest against the pathetic condition of the Aarey Milk colony road, which connects Goragaon to Andheri and Powai. They brought the traffic to a halt for four hours or so.

AAREY MILK Colony, located in the suburbs of Mumbai is known for its milk plants, picnic spots, and lakes, etc. Hence, the Aarey Milk colony road is considered to be a very important road as it connects Goragaon to Andheri and Powai. The road was in the news on 25th September, as around 400 volunteers of India against Corruption (IAC), Mumbai brought the traffic to a at halt, as a matter of protest against the PWD officials, who have turned a blind eye to the bad roads. The volunteers took this action as the condition of the Aarey Milk colony road are very bad and the authorities do not look interested in repairing the road.

People who travel via this road have a very difficult time driving through as there are several potholes and the conditions are even worse when rain pours in the city. As it is a toll road, the car owners are required to pay a particular amount when they cross the road, so the government makes a good earning through this busy road. Still, the authorities give a damn and do not repair the road even when they make 2.5 lacs per day through the toll tax. No wonder, the IAC volunteers have taken this step.

The volunteers had a very clear objective on their minds as they were very stubborn about their protest. Some of the important demands that the volunteers made were that the road should be prepared within 15 days, and commuters would not be paying any toll tax until the road is repaired and they also wanted street lights to be installed.

The volunteers stopped the traffic on both sides of the road, so the traffic came to a major halt. The engineers came along with the police and asked the volunteers to stop their protest as they said they would look into the matter on Tuesday. The volunteers were somewhat satisfied and agreed to open the road traffic, but they did not allow the authorities to collect toll tax.

Everyone is very eager to know what major decision would be taken on Tuesday when the PWD administrators and Engineers meet regarding the repairment of Aarey Milk colony road.
