On July 31, a senior IAS officer Jagadananda Panda and four members of his family were found dead in Orissa. Police sources said that it appeared to be committed by Panda himself as his service revolver was found at the site.
IN A horrifying incident, a 50-year-old official of the Indian Administrative Service (1983 batch), Jagadananda Panda, was found dead along with four other members of his family in Bargarh district of Orissa. The Superintendent of Police, Ashok Biswal said the bodies of Jagadananda Panda and those of his wife, father and two sisters were found with bullet wounds at the site of the incident.
Panda was on deputation to the centre where he was posted as protector general of emigrants in New Delhi. Before going on Central deputation a few years ago, Panda was working as special relief commissioner in Orissa. The incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning. Police sources said that the muders seemed to be committed by Panda himself as they found Panda's service revolver at the place where the incident took place. “The main door and other entry points to the house were found closed from the inside,” sources added. The bodies have been sent for post mortem while Pand's 22-year-old son who was severely injured, has been admitted to the hospital.
