PRIYA RANJAN Dasmunshi, minister of Information and Broadcasting, released the DVD version of ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’, a serial based on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s celebrated book ’The Discovery of India’ on Friday (June 27).
While speaking on the occasion, Dasmunsi said that it would be an instrument to educate our future generations about the history of our great civilisation. "Whatever the cost, it would be made available in educational institutions and libraries around the country," he said.
He even said that he would take up the matter with the ministry of Human Resource Development to facilitate this effort.
Acknowledging Prasar Bharti’s role as a public broadcaster and in preserving and highlighting the cultural history of our nation, Dasmunsi urged private TV channels to be more sensitive towards issues and contribute to the social cause, rising above television rating points (TRPs) and sole motive of profit making.
Shyam Benegal, MP and director of the serial said that Indians wherever they are, would be interested in it since it tells the story of our great history.
Remembering the experience of making of this great serial, he said that 53 episodes were the result of daily shooting for 19 months at a stretch on over 500 actors at 144 different sets with the support of 10 script writers and guidance of 22 well known historians.
Renowned film actor Om Puri and chief executive officer, Prasar Bharti, BS Lalli were among those present on the occasion.
