With political clout of Bal Thackrey shrinking with every passing day he is resorting to anti-social activities and marathi manus agenda to revive his sinking ship, which given present political scenario seems a distant dream.
MEDIA IS one of the strongest and reliable pillars of democracy, as it brings out key issues and subjects related to socio-economic development of the country in the notice of not only public but also government. However, certain sections of the society don’t take media criticism in positive light, they often raise voice against the media and at times resort to vandalism and other anti-social activities to gag the voice of media.
In what could be defined as the black Friday in the history of Indian journalism, on November 20, some 20 to 25 goons carrying flag of Shiv Sena and chanting slogans in favour of their leaders Bal Thackeray and Udhav Thackeray entered IBN 7 Lokmat Mumbai office and went on a rampage damaging property and attacking staff. They also attacked senior journalist and Editor-in-chief Nikhil Wagle and intimidated him with dire consequences if IBN7 Lokmat carried out criticism of senior Thackrey and his political party Shiv Sena in future.
The attack by Shiv Sainik received condemnation from many senior media personalities and political parties.
Senior Thackrey supported the unlawful activities next day in his mouthpiece Saamana, with pressure mounting from many quarters police arrested goons involved in the incident. According to some reliable sources, it was Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut’s brother Sunil Raut who was the mastermind behind the attack. Sanjay Raut is also a member of Shiv Sena and working as an executive editor in Saamana.
Deputy Police Commissioner RM Vatkar told media persons that till now 18 people involved in the dreaded incident have been arrested and mastermind Sunil Raut who was absconding since November 20, have surrendered and following which police has arrested him. Booked Shiv Saina’s goons will be charged under various IPC laws, including attempt to murder and rioting.
