The fans were saved of watching those agonizing and horrific submission of our much flaunted batsmen by short-pitched deliveries. From being the favorites we returned as an incompetent minnow with thousands of flaws to take care of. The team was found lacking pathetically in all departments viz., strategy, fielding, bowling, batting so on and so forth ! Afganistan and South Africa would be ruing the fact that they did not used short-pitched balls against us. Our over-burdened players would have got rest earlier!
What is even funnier is that none bothered to look into the root cause of team’s route. Instead every one seems to be suggesting silly excuses! Captain Cool suddenly realized the menace of IPL parties! BCCI started suggesting a change of guard! Coach has suddenly woken up to the fitness issue! For God Sake! What about the player’s incompetency and fatigue? Captain and Coach are simply out to save their skin. Due to the fear of BCCI’s autocratic character they are even afraid of admitting that the root cause of this debacle is the IPL and only IP. All this seems really comical at this stage. Dhoni was feeling fresh before going to World Cup but all of sudden he realized the fatigue of attending IPL parties. Coach was happy with the team but all of a sudden he finds that he is fitter than most of the playing eleven. Isn’t it all rubbish? The fact is that this team was a bunch of either incompetent players or these players were simply on holiday after a long, tiring tournament! They didn’t even have the strength to have regular match practices before their fixtures. The irresponsibility shown by our team is indeed shameful. They fought tooth and nail in the IPL but when it came to the country’s pride they chose to be complacent. The BCCI needs to devise ways out of it. IPL has all the potential to prove nemesis of Indian Cricket. It lures even the seasoned players and thus its ill-effect can easily be guessed for the upcoming players. Slowly but certainly, the IPL has taken center stage and the players are going over board to perform for their franchise, ultimately rendering themselves unfit for international tournaments. There should be clear demarcation between players schedule for International events and IPL. Players selected for International events must leave all other assignments and report to national camp for coaching and practice. Playing non-stop, luxurious cricket for 45 days certainly brings fatigue and, most importantly, it takes the player to a different mindset of party-match-travel-party… Our players went for World Cup with fatigue legs, limited preparation and when faced the quality attacks they simply faltered since they were still in IPL mode where the turfs were much to their liking. Even the match tactics, decisions and team composition were kept on the lines of IPL. The time is still not lost. The BCCI can still evaluate the situation and take corrective measures to fix the problem well within time to save the fans from experiencing this all over again during the all important One-Day World Cup.
