ICC has ruled out Eden Garden for the Cricket World Cup tie because of semi-finished stadium. BCCI has recommended the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore as the alternate venue for this match.

KOLKATA CRICKET fans, who were waiting for the February 27 India and England tie of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in the Eden Gardens, are very disappointed because International Cricket Council (ICC) has ruled out the match at the venue. ICC has has ruled out Eden Garden for this Cricket World Cup tie because of semi-finished stadium. BCCI has recommended the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore as the alternate venue for this match.

International Cricket Council (ICC) told the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that all concrete and structural steel work of media, broadcasters, officials, VIP areas and the main stand should be completed by February 7. An inspection team of ICC will visit the Eden Gardens on February 7 to review the progress.

ICC also said if Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) missed the deadline of completion of all pending work in Eden Gardens, the other three non-India matches too will be moved out of Kolkata. Other three World Cup matches are scheduled in Kolkata including Ireland and South Africa (March 15), Ireland and Netherlands (March 18) and Kenya and Zimbabwe (March 20) matches.

The historical Eden Gardens stadium hosted historical Semifinal match between India - Sri Lanka 1996 World Cup.

Earlier, an ICC team had inspected renovation work at the Wankhde stadium in Mumbai as well as Sri Lankan venues in Colombo, Hambantota and Pallekele. All the venues were cleared by the ICC inspection team of stadium consultant Eugene van Vuuren, ICC's general manager-commercial Campbell Jamieson and ICC events manager Chris Tetley.
