Idly cart also under food safety rules from August 5
To make sure that qualitative food is served to customers, government has made an act, according to which every food selling vendor has to register with the department before August 4.

WHETHER IT is a street Idly cart or a small roadside hotel, irrespective of its size, it should be registered, as according to new food safety guidelines, it has become compulsory and the last date for these registrations is August 4. Otherwise they will have to pay big penalties.

Food business licensing and registration rules are also coming into force from fifth of next month. Food safety regulation Act - 2006 has come into force from the 5th of last year. According to this act the Government had given one year's time to vending carts and shops for registration and that is coming to an end on August 5.

Those who are entitled to this license are only eligible to sell the food items in future otherwise they have to face a jail sentence of six months and a fine up to Rs 5 lacs. Those who have the license also have to get the fresh license, according to latest act.

All meat selling shops and milk transporting vehicles also need to register, according to this act. Those buisinesses with a turnover of Rs 12 lacs per year need to register their names with Rs 100 and who have a turnover above this have to pay Rs 7,500 for the license. This has to be paid at any E-seva and Me-seva centers or with any designated officers. This is nothing but to serve healthy and qualitative food to customers, according to authorities.

Who will make sure that all shops are regsitered? How will they catch hold of a farmer who is directly selling his crops in local market?

This is a good move to align small businesses. However, like licence-less drivers on street, like license-less liquir shops - unregistered meat shops will also continue to exist. Only local police got another avenue to collect 'hafta'
