If Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, so was the historical 'Lal Qila'
I feel it really embarrassing to write about the non entity rabble rouser such as a Sardhana MLA Sangeet Som who has recently termed Mughal emperors Babur, Akbar and Aurangzeb as "traitors."

He said their names would be removed from pages of history. During a visit to Meerut district, he also said that Taj Mahal was built by an emperor who had imprisoned his own father and had targeted many Hindus in his kingdom.

Sangeet Som is not a historian or even an apology of a historian. I could have also dismissed his comment as a blather of a windbag. Also we know his history and background. He was born in an agricultural family of Alamgeer (Faridpur) in Sardhana tehsil of Meerut district. He had completed his Secondary Education from KK Jain Inter college Khatuli near Muzaffarnagar. Khatuli was known as the birthplace of well known Urdu poet Saleem Khatoulvi. The controversial politician is not an academician and he should not be taken seriously until and unless his harangues turns into a corrupt threatening public nuisance.

My readers know that history is an academic discipline which uses a narrative to examine and analyze a sequence of past events. History objectively determines the patterns of cause and effect that determine them. However, stories common to a particular culture or religion, not supported by external sources are usually classified as cultural heritage, legends or astha. They do not withstand the test or show the "disinterested investigation" required of the discipline of history. His statement doesn't merit a historical analysis or commentary.

Sangeet Singh Som had won from the his Assembly seat with a good margin and is still a very popular figure among the Hindu population of the area. We have had plethora of so-called "Hindu Hirday Samarat", "New Loh Purush", "Sangharshveer" and "Mahanayaks" etc after 1947. The galaxy has several stars of different eclat like Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, LK Advani, Bala Saheb Thackrey, Naredra Modi and Yogi Adityanath. Sageet Som had been trying hard for years to mark his name in that firmament either by hook or by crook.

He is one of the accused in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots; he was booked under the National Security Act on 24 September, 2013. Justice Vishnu Sahai Commission's report on Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013 has put him on top of the list of those it has found responsible for the flare-up. And on 18 January, 2017 Sangeet Som was booked for showing clips from the riots as part of a documentary.

He is a much tom-tomed as an anti-beef campaigner but the documentary evidence had revealed that Som had been personally associated with two meat processing and export companies, Al-Dua and Al-Anam. Al-Dua has been described as one of India's leading 'halal' meat export companies which exports meat to Arab countries.

An Urdu poet has said – "Is saadgi pe kyon na mar jayen aey Khuda? Lardtey hain aur haath men talwar bhi nahin." (Oh my God, won't everyone die witnessing the simplicity of this naive who fights without a sword in the hand?

Som told the press on October 9, 2015 that he was unaware of having been made a director of Al-Dua, and that as a "Hindu hardliner" it was not possible for him to engage in such an activity. However, the next day, Som admitted to "The Hindu" that he was a director of Al-Dua for about two years.

So the unbiased, dispassionate and informed reader could easily conclude what kind of opportunist and hypocrite he has been.

Coming back to Som's and other likely ignorant saffronites' argument that Mughal emperors Babur, Akbar and Aurangzeb were "traitors, "may I ask the name of the king of Hindustan at the time Babur had invaded India? Shreeman, he was no other than the staunch Muslim ruler Ibrahim Lodi. Is he the ideal of saffronites?

Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan and so was the Lal Qila! Will they ask the Prime Minister not to speak from the ramparts of the 'Red Fort' next time as it is a symbol of slavery!

What next? What about the great administrative and historical buildings erected by British masters. I think they won't talk about it as there exists a well documented relationship between the RSS and British masters.

History is built on strong foundations and few unfortunate aberrations won't turn its flow or course. Enough is enough! If the BJP and Narendra Modi are serious about 'Sabka Vikas, Sabka Saath,' they should rein in these loose cannons who are spoiling the peace of the nation, otherwise these Frankensteins would harm more the Prime Minister's reputation than the community Som is trying to target.
