The use of technology in sports is always seen as a positive step. Indian sports may not use technology as much as other western countries around the world for various reasons. But, with the introduction of the latest technology, sports stalwarts, such as Arpana Popat and Harinder Singh feel that it can be used to help Indian sports.
Popat, former Indian shuttler, said in this NNIS video, “If technology
is used properly, it can be a huge benefit. If the coaches can engineer their training to use this software properly, it can benefit a lot.”
The game of badminton has changed from those days she used to represent India. Now, the game has become more competitive. She further added, “For a sport like badminton, which is extremely fast, technology can be very helpful. The badminton players should have this technology available to them, and it will enhance their performance.”
Singh, former Indian hockey coach, on the other hand, said, “We have two types of coaches in India, one who run away from technology and unfortunately they are in good position. On the other hand, there are coaches at various other levels, where they are keen to use technology, but facilities are not available to them.”
So, in this respect, it is the various sports federations, which play an important role in bringing technology in their respective sport.
Singh added, “If Indian coaches use this kind of technology, those players who make it to the national team, this kind of things become a routine work for them.”
If India wants to compete with the rest of the world in various Olympic sports, it is important that technology is looked upon as an important tool to improve the standard of Indian sport.
