Illegal construction in Old Delhi after honest engineer attacked

Ever since the honest engineer Ansar Alam of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was attacked on 09.02.2012 at the behest of unauthorised builders in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi, massive unauthorised constructions have mushroomed in almost all streets of the city zone of North Delhi Municipal Corporation - with tall structures erected without any approval from civic authorities.

IT IS significant that deputing Ansar Alam in the area had even made many workers engaged in unauthorised constructions, to return back to their native villages. But suddenly after the exit of Ansar Alam from the area, rates of labour, building-material and other services like lifting of malba have gone high.

All this has caused severe problems for residents of the area with historical places such as Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Gurudwara Sisganj out of view from their residential houses. Environment and civic amenities like sewer system have been badly affected.

Since political rulers, civic and police authorities turn a blind eye to all such illegal and unauthorised constructions for reasons best known to everybody, the matter should be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to nab the culprits responsible for illegal activities of the rich and muscle-powered unauthorised builders who have already proved their might by removing the honest engineer Ansar Alam from the area after attacking him.

Responsibility should also be fixed on area-corporators to keep a vigil on unauthorized constructions in their respective areas through their workers and supporters. Any unauthorized construction in the area should auto-terminate membership of the elected representative from the civic body.
