There are 16,019 foreigners detected as illegal immigrants who are untraced. 13431 were detected by the foreigners tribunals and 2588 were under the IM(DT) act. Since 2001 only 288 foreigners have been deported from the state.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS can pose more trouble in Assam. Recent happenings in BTAD areas was one of the main root cause of this problem created by illegal immigrants. But the central and state government does not take any step for detection and deportation of these illegal migrants.

Since 2001 only 288 foreigners have been deported from the state. There were 28483 people who have been declared foreigners by the various tribunals in the state. Another matter of concern is that there are 272593 cases pending in state foreigners tribunals.
From 2001 to 2011, there were 2378 illegal intruders arrested. Till 31st January 2011, 86,595 cases have been disposed. Among them 42886 prove their Indian citizenship and 6166 declared as foreigners.
