Illegal migrants are responsible for rising crime in Gurgaon
DCP Gurgaon police in a recent interaction with media has blamed the migrants for rise in crime in the city but isn't it their (police) duty to keep a track of such people and make sure that residents enjoy a peaceful living?

IN A recent interview with Media, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Maheshwari Dayal has said, “We are doing our job well; crime is on the rise due to migrants.” Very fine but who is going to check and monitor the activities of migrants pouring into Gurgaon from UP, Bihar and other states. It is the job of police to take care of their movements. Why doesn’t local police conduct an Identification exercise at their place of work/ residences? Also it is a moral duty of neighbours to report to police if they suspect the activities of such people. But they should be careful enough not to do anything out of hatred or ill-will.

As per Dayal, there is a deficiency of man-power in police and if it so, DGP, State Home Minister/ Chief Minister should be requested to sanction more manpower to Gurgaon police at the earliest. Just referring the inadequacy will not fetch any results.

He further commented that criminals do bring along weapons with them and if it so, the licensing authorities should conduct raids and must be extra vigilant while issuing a gun/ weapon license to any citizen. VIP security is another issue raised by him. No additional manpower should be given to any VIP other than what he/ she is entitled. Police has to be strict enough to adhere to the laid down rules and regulations, only then things can probably improve.

An extensive training must be given to police personnel on self-discipline and personal management. We have even seen senior police officers like SSP driving on the wrong side of the road, riding motorcycles without helmets is a norm among policemen. So the situation demands that we keep our own house in order first before challenging others.
