The crackers which small kids burn, they do it for fun, as they are not aware of the effect of their fun. But what about their parents? They are old enough and aware about the current situation of their surroundings. And whenever they are asked not to pollute the environment with the crackers, they would simply reply that this is for a day only, we can enjoy for a day, it is not so effective. Please someone tell them that ‘this one day’ can make an effect for lifetime.
Actually, we pollute our surroundings each and every second and in these festivals we only increase its level. Small children and old patients are the worst sufferers of this. Burning of crackers is against the law. But police hardly arrest anybody. Sometimes, we hear that police arrested some people for burning crackers, but, this is only in Kolkata
and its neighbourhood. But police is inactive in other districts. And as per my knowledge, during the last puja festival, police arrested more than 600 people. But what is the next step after the arrest? They come out of there soon and start polluting again and again. Recently, in a newspaper I read that a political leader’s brother in-law has been arrested for burning crackers. But due to the political connections he got out of there soon.
I don’t know who will read this, but this is my request to the appropriate authority and the Pollution Control Board of West Bengal
to take necessary steps to check the matter effectively.
