Improve quality of interaction and relationships between teachers and students for quality education
Teachers seem to have become unprofessional in India since most of them are not in touch with research in education and its implications. Many hold that teachers not even read any standard textbook of their subject. There is need to train and professionalise teachers.

Some recent educational research studies indicate that the school climate and relationships with teachers and students are positively related to quality of education. In the light of these research studies, schools in India must improve the social climate of schools if quality of education is be improved.

According to Professor Thomas Babalis and his associates at University of Athens, the school's climate, which is inextricably related to its quality, helps the affected individuals, teachers and students feel personal value, dignity, importance and the sense they belong to something beyond themselves.

Babalis holds that schools should promote social and emotional learning, which is connected to the school and the classroom climate, since it positively affect cognitive outcomes. "Academic learning takes place within the school environment, where emotional and social experiences create the framework for this kind of learning," he observes.

Similarly, the book "Transforming Schools, Empowering Children" authored by Arun Kapur, who taught in and headed the lead schools of the country, dwells on the attributes of a 'great school.' According to the author, schools provide a structure to the students, a kind of scaffolding that the students require growing, learning and evolving.

Expressing his views on teachers in the role of educators, the author of the book published by Sage Publications, says, "An enlightened educator understands that students have a potential, which is dynamic; and the purpose of the school experience is to bring out the potential in students. It is only when this potential is tapped and honed that can fully develop their abilities."

In proper psycho-social learning climate, the higher order cognitive learning like 'learning how to learn', individualized learning, curriculum transaction, formative student assessment take place effectively.
