In a major victory on the foreign policy front India calls back diplomat Devyani Khobragade from the US
Indian diplomat Devyani Khobaragade, who was charged by the US authorities for visa fraud and making false statements during her tenure as a deputy consular general, is returning back to India after the Indian government transferred her to Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

Khobargade was hand cuffed, arrested and strip searched by the US authorities in violation of diplomatic immunities granted to her. Later she was released on a personal bond of $2,50,000. India has  strongly registered its protests with the US government against the misbehavior meted out to its diplomat.

To provide Devyani full diplomatic immunity India later transferred her to its permanent UN mission in the US.

Former foreign minister of India K. Natwar Singh has termed Devyani's return as a plus point for the country's foreign policy. “It's a plus point for India.”

Will there be any adverse impact on Indo-US relations because of this latest step by India, Natwar Singh said that at this point of time nothing can be said. “At this point we can't say anything about Indo-US relationship,” added Natwar Singh.

Though Khobragade is returning back to India, the case against her will continue there in the US. India is continuously demanding that the US authorities should drop all the charges against Khobragade.

Spokesperson for the India's external affairs ministry while confirming the return of Devyani has said that the Indian diplomat had reiterated her innocence. “The charges against me are false and baseless. I look forward to proving them wrong,” Khobragade told this to PTI as she boarded the plane back to India.

Meanwhile Devyani has thanked to the Indian Govt. for the continuous support given to her. Her father Uttam Khobragade, an ex-IAS officer,  has also thanked the Govt. and the media for their support.
