In Didi's Bengal, Modi slams UPA government
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi blamed the UPA government for what he said 'poor condition of the country' while addressing a conference, organised by the biggest business bodies in West Bengal - the Indian Chamber of Commerce, MCC Chamber of Commerce and the Bharat Chamber of Commerce.

Narendra Modi said that the Congress government at the Centre is not cooperating with the states with no Congress governments. He added that the same thing is happening with the West Bengal also. “The central government’s work machinery is at a standstill. The UPA government at the Centre is discriminating against non-Congress governments while lending funds for development,” he said.

Modi said without the development of the West Bengal, India could not be developed, “Bengal is a great land and has a lot of potential. Without its strength, India's development won't be complete,” said Modi. He described West Bengal as the gateway to the development of North and Northeast India.

Reminding the industrialists of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Modi said none of the states were discriminated against when Vajpayee was the prime minister of the country.

Modi's statement could be read as his support to the perception of West Bengal chief Mamata Banerjee, who is striving hard to get the centre's financial support, however, so far she has not succeeded. Modi, during his address expressed confidence that West Bengal government will fulfill people's dreams, reported DNA.

Political analyst and journalist Sidharth Bhatia said on Twitter that Modi's appreciation of Mamata's government may be an effort to associate her with NDA. “BJP trying to woo Mamata back? Meanwhile she is trying to get into UPA. The battle for allies gets more interesting,” tweeted Bhatia.

The Gujarat CM also didn't spare the CPM, which ruled the state for decades. He said that the former Left government created potholes in West Bengal for 32 years and it will take time to fill them.

Though Modi echoed the views of West Bengal's CM, however, his visit to the state also generated a controversy. State unit of the BJP accused Mamata-led government of refusing to allot the landmark Netaji Indoor Stadium for the party's high-profile leader's “giant civic reception”.

The one possibility for Mamata's refusal could be because of her visit to the Prime Minister seeking grant for West Bengal on the day of Modi's arrival in the state. She might be of the view that facilitating Modi's smooth visit in the state could irk the central government.
