In 'drought-hit' Maharashtra, Asaram Bapu under fire for wasting water in Pre-Holi celebrations
Sant Asaram Bapu keeps on courting controversies these days because of his acts and utterances. He was criticized in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly's upper house on March 18 for allegedly wasting water during pre-Holi celebrations in the state, which was reeling under drought-like conditions.
Clashes also took place reportedly between the followers of Asaram Bapu and Republican Party of
India (RPI) workers in Navi Mumbai, where pre-Holi celebrations were taking place.
Raising the issue in the Upper House, Congress MLC
Sanjay Dutt said that as the state suffered an acute water scarcity, Asaram Bapu wasted thousands of litres of water in a pre-Holi event in
Nagpur on Sunday, March 17.
In Navi Mumbai, additional police force had to be called to bring a near-rioting situation under control after RPI workers clashed with Asaram Bapu’s supporters at the event venue. Asaram Bapu's followers gave vent to their ire by allegedly attacking and injuring two scribes.
RPI has demanded action against Asaram Bapu and his supporters for wasting water and indulging in rioting by defying the Maharashtra government's orders and continuing pre-Holi celebrations.
On the other hand, the supporters of the Asaram Bapu hold that the anti-social elements, opposed to the Indian culture, have been trying to mislead the society by spreading evil reports regarding their guru.
