In Gurgaon, Arjun Marg market's branded clothes go light on the purse
Being fairly new to Gurgaon, it took me a while to discover 'The Shopping Mall' in the Arjun Marg market located at DLF Phase-1. But when I finally realised there was a whole world to explore in that part of Gurgaon, it was such a joy- especially the part where branded clothes in dirt cheap money made it into my closet. Right from jeans, tops to shorts and the rest, there is an array of shops where they sell branded clothes.

Trying to understand the business of it all, I walked over to the market and got some questions answered. Arjun Gandhi, a shop owner in the market, which goes by the name 'Queeny', seemed reluctant to answer most of the questions. Trying to shirk most of the questions with answer such as 'trade secret,' he did say that he gets clothes from manufacturers in Gurgaon, who sell slightly defective clothes to them.

Talking about the whole circle, he said, “As soon as people hear the word 'branded' they would want to buy these clothes. I get these clothes that are slightly defective and sell them off to people in a much lesser price tag.”

Since this serves the purpose of everyone, a lot of merchandise makes its off the rack through this policy. Adding to it, Gandhi also pointed out that branded doesn't necessarily mean a name, it also means good quality clothes in lesser price. And, he also stated that youths are much more into these kind of shopping.

Having said that, a point, which looks a bit of a dichotomy is the fact that Arjun Marg market is at a place, which is situated in the midst of the upper scale of Gurgaon. Thus, this market is proving that Indians are stringy or there is something else there.

A shopper, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “This is a place where you do get some quality clothes for a fun weekend or if you have to gift someone something and giving an actual GAP jeans would pull your purse-string a little too much.” Another gentleman said, “I don't care about it being branded or not. I do not live nearby and I come here because of my girlfriend as she really loves to shop here.”

People, who are yet to discover this place, make sure you go out this weekend and get some 'branded' stuff for yourself. And if clothes is something, which bore you then this place offers you food, gadgets and books. Indulgence should have been the name of the place!
