The 25 year old Bollywood actress Jiah khan was found dead at her home in Mumbai. Police said it was a suicide. The twist came in the case when a suicide note was found which revealed that there was the hand of Suraj Pancholi, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, behind the suicide of Jiah Khan.
The year saw its one of the deadliest flood of all time when the devastating floods and landslide in northern state of Uttarakhand happened in June. More than 5,000 people died as the result of the natural calamity. A massive rescue operation was carried to evacuate thousands of people from the Himalayan Mountain.

On September 13 a court sentenced four convicts in Nirbhaya gang rape and murder to death. In December 2012, the 23-year old medical student was raped by the six people. Later she died. That incident shook the entire country which resulted into the countrywide protests.
Lalu Prasad Yadav arrested in fodder scam:
Bihar's former chief minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav was convicted in multi-crore fodder scam and sentenced to five years in jail by a Jharkhand court. With this Lalu also lost his membership of the Lok Sabha. However, he was later grated bail by the Supreme court.

On 27 Aug. India witnessed one of its worst communal riots between Hindus and Muslims in Muzzafarnagar district of northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The riots resulted into the death of 43 people. According to the various reports the riots seemed to be the result of political conspiracy which worsen the situation and people are forced to take refuge in relief camps.

Arvind Kejriwal made history by becoming the second youngest Chief Minister of Delhi after his year old Aam Aadmi Party made a stunning debut by winning 28 seats in the 70 member Delhi Assembly. Kejriwal also defeated former CM Shiela Dikshit who had been running the state since last 15 years. The Aam Aadmi party swept away the Congress and gave a tough competition to the BJP.
