Inclusive tourism development can strengthen inclusive economic development: President Kovind on World Tourism Day
The UN-established World Tourism Day was celebrated on September 27 in major cities of India which attract tourists.

Speaking at a function held in New Delhi to give away the National Tourism Awards, President Ram Nath Kovind said that tourism was one of the largest industries in the world as indicated by the figure that 123 crore people visited different countries as tourists in 2016.

He said that inclusive tourism development can strengthen inclusive economic development if every citizen should strive to provide a good experience to tourists at his or her own level. In a tourism conscious society, the role of the government is only to provide direction and a facilitating environment.

"The tourism industry contributes 10.2 per cent of the world's GDP. It is estimated that every 10th person in the world works in the tourism industry," stated a release quoting Kovind.

According to him, the tourism industry can contribute significantly in generating permanent employment opportunities and eliminating poverty.

Launching the 'Adopt a Heritage Project' Kovind said that India had a great potential to make its rich and diverse heritage monuments tourist-friendly with a partnership of the public and private sectors.

On World Tourism Day, PM Narender Modi, while urging people to discover the beauty of Incredible India by traveling across the country and explore its diversity.

In his message Modi said, "On World Tourism Day, I invite people from all over the world to come & discover the beauty of Incredible India & hospitality of our people. I specially urge my young friends to travel across India and see firsthand the diversity of our vibrant nation. "

Tourism Minister Alphons Kannanthanam participated in "Swachhta Hi Sewa" Campaign at Janpath Market, Connaught Place, New Delhi on World Tourism Day.

He called upon people to commit ourselves to transform our country into one of the most preferred destinations for travellers around the world.
