Income tax raid on soap opera queen Ekta Kapoor; Twitterati poke fun
A team of around 100 income tax officials in Mumbai conducted raids at the residence and offices of soap opera queen and the Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor on the suspicion of tax evasion.

According to media reports the raid that began at seven in the morning covered at least seven locations related to Ekta Kapoor's empire in the city. IT officials searched Ekta's residence in suburban Juhu and studios of Balaji Films under whose banner the queen of TV serials produces soaps and the films.

There was no official comment from Balaji Telefilms on the income tax raid. Not only Ekta but the income tax department also raided the personal office of her actor brother Tushar Kapoor in suburban Bandra. Notably, Ekta is joint director of listed Balaji telefilms, while her father Jitendra Kumar, a legendary actor of yesteryears is chairman of the company. Reports also say that the IT department will record the statements of Ekta Kapoor and Jitendra later.

Micro blogging site Twitter was abuzz with humour soon after the news of raid went out into media. Taking an indirect dig at Ekta Kapoor's fascination towards a particular alphabet, with which she starts her every serial and film, a twitterati Ashish Shakya @stupidusmaximus said, “Ekta Kapoor's office raided. So far they've discovered a stash of 52738 unnecessary alphabets."

Angry Bombay Girl @shadymumbai tweeted, “Income Tax Raid on Ekta Kapoor .. After CBI & FBI now even the IT department is trying to Find out where Tushaar Kapoor 's talent is Hidden. A twitter user Rohan Joshi @mojorojo said, “ Ekta Kapoor was raided. Can't wait to find out what happens. Next week, at 9 pm”. IndiaSpeaks @IndiaSpeaksPR tweeted, “I-T raids at Ekta Kapoor, Jeetendra Tusshar Kapoor's residences to find out how Tushar Kapoor's movies are makin money”.
