Increase the periodicity of regular safety drills in all modes of transport
With reference to the latest rail accident in Uttar Pradesh, and the long history of mishaps in the country, it's time that we undertake proper management of security measures and training of rail personnel.
ON THE lines of “mock drill”, “regular safety drills” should take place in all modes of transport (both public and private) for controlling any mishap happening. Recently, there was a train accident, which could point to ageing infrastructure besides other irregularities. All these would come to surface, crystal clear, once “regular safety drills” are conducted at frequent intervals.
The above option would also mean more and more safety related employees/ officers recruited after lots of job creation. Their findings and reporting should be taken very seriously and acted upon speedily. “Regular safety drills” will boost the image of any organization indicating that concerned people in running the affairs are doing everything to accord top priority to “safety”. At times it is seen trains are delayed in running for some reason or another and passengers gets a feel of discomfort.
However, if “regular safety drills” results in some trains running late, passengers may not feel that much of discomfort and on the other hand some passengers may appreciate the move – but such exercises should be so planned that the timings of the trains are not affected at all.
As a fast-growing economy, we must instill more confidence amongst travellers to compete with the best transport systems in the world.
