Independents have fair chance to win UP elections
Looking at the trail of corruption that the mainstream parties have left, one feels that independent candidates have better chances to win the UP elections. Though one is not sure whether these candidates will stick to their promises or follow their seniors.

THE FORTHCOMING assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be most interesting and some of the dark horses could make it this time. Ruling Mayawati’s BSP, Congress, BJP and Mulyam Singh’s party are the main political parties in the fray.

All these parties mainly depend on the backward, SC/ST, Dalits, Jats and Muslim votes. Everyone is pin pointing mistakes of their opponents, while trying to show that they can make a mark in the society. They are busy making big promises and development schemes, which later normally prove to be mere promises and nothing else.

Where were these political parties while innocent people were murdered, and during the land acquisition agitation. Sarpanchs misused their power, pensions to the widows and senior citizens weren’t paid on time, mothers during pregnancy were not treated well, bribe was demanded for every petty job, police harassed the Dalits and the poor and farmers were not given the reasonable price for their crops. How these political leaders used the public exchequer to fund their anniversaries and celebrations is not known yet.

There is no end to their misdeeds and corruption. Their aim is to win power by hook or by crook since they know once they are elected, they can earn 100 folds the amount spent on elections and it will be recovered within a very short time. Looking at the present trend in the UP state elections it is obvious that the Independent candidates have better chances of winning than corrupt politicians cutting across party lines. However, these elected candidates may later follow their seniors.
