India and Republic of Korea have had strong emotional ties
India and the Republic of Korea have had close and emotional ties which have benefited both the countries. This was observed by Skand Ranjan Tayal, former Ambassador to the Republic of Korea at a book reading function organised at the Haryana Institute of Public Administration in Gurugram.

While reading excerpts from his book titled "India and Republic of Korea: Engaged Democracies" Tayal spoke about a belief in Korea that a princess from Ayodhya had gone there by sea in 48 CE and married a Korean prince. Many Koreans having family name Kim consider India as the land of their ancestors. MC Gupta, former Chief Secretary of Haryana while presiding over the function complemented the author for his in-depth study of relations of both the countries.

Tayal said that ironically India and the Republic of Korea got independence almost at the same time and at that time India was much advanced in comparison. But now where we are in comparison to Republic of Korea everybody knows. Tayal said that Korea pays more importance to research & development and education adding that we have miserably failed in achieving hundred per cent literacy. He pointed out that Koreans have the qualities of discipline, punctuality and hard work.

The author said that the people of the Republic of Korea feel proud of their relations with India adding that Left-leaning historians had ignored to study the history of the princess of Ayodhya. Tayal hoped that now with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission of Make in India more emphasis will be given on research. Recent developments in the Korean Peninsula for peace between North Korea and the US was also discussed.
