India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow: Day 5
India won four medals on the fifth day of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in shooting and weightlifting. Jitu Rai, Gagan Narang, Gurpal Singh and Vikas Thakur brought laurels to the nation with their performance.

Jitu Rai managed to come up with a brilliant display in the 50 m pistol event, where he overshadowed all other competitors to win the gold medal. Not only did he won the medal, but he shot 194.1 m, whereby he created a record in the Commonwealth Games final. Another Indian in the event, Gurpal Singh also showed his class winning the silver medal.

Gagan Narang may have been a tad disappointed as he was considered to be a major gold medal contender for India, but had to be satisfied with a silver medal in the 50 m rifle prone event. His performance was better by Australian Warren Potent, who won gold. But, overall India had a good day in the shooting arena.

India's weightlifter Vikas Thakur won a silver medal in the 85 kg men's category in Glasgow. He lifted a total wight of 333 kg, 150 in snatch, while 183 in clean and jerk, which helped him win the prestigious medal.

At the end of day 5, India finished the day with a total 26 medals, which they have won since day 1. A lot number of medals are expected to be won by athletes in other sporting events.
