India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow: Day 8
India once again proved to be one of the best Commonwealth nations when it comes to wrestling as they won two gold medals, a silver and a bronze on the eighth day of the competition. Apart from wrestlers, it was Vikas Gowda, who won India's first gold medal in Athletics during the 2014 CWG.

India had major hopes on Yogeshwar Dutt in the men's 65 kg category, and he did not disappoint any of his fans putting up a major display winning the gold medal defeating Jevon Balfour of Canada.

On the other hand, Babita Kumari also won a gold in the women's 55 kg category. After some Indian wrestlers lost in many a gold medal matches, this was a much needed gold medal victory for India.

Geetika Jhakar failed to win her gold medal match in the 63 kg category, hence had to be satisfied with a silver medal finish and Pawan Kumar won a bronze medal in the men's 86 kg category.

In Athletics, India may not be a strong contender to produce many a medals, but through Vikas Gowda, India managed to bag their first gold medal via his event, Discuss Throw. He bettered his performance from his last Commonwealth Games in India, where he had won a silver medal.

He shrugged off strong competition from other discuss throwers, as he threw the disc 63.64m, which was 32 m further than Cypriot Apostolos Parellis throw, who won silver. Jamaica's Jason Morgan with a throw of 62.34 won the bronze.
