Michigan university professor - CK Prahalad observed, in a special session on 'India@75' organised by CII, that India has the potential to influence the new world order. The CII plans to follow guidelines outlined by Prahalad.
THE CONFEDERATION of Indian Industry (CII) is building a comprehensive vision for India@75, which is the year 2022, and will undertake an ’aspirational role’ and facilitate India’s transformation to a global leader by the said year. This was announced by KV Kamath, president of CII, at a special session on India@75 in New Delhi on Thursday (May 8). Kamath said that CII is setting up a ’Mission on India@75: The Emerging Agenda’.
This vision has been developed by Prof CK Prahalad, Paul Ruth McCracken distinguished university professor, Ross School of Business, The University of Michigan. CII will adopt this vision as a long term agenda and will internalise it to build a stronger vision over the coming years. Kamath said that CII has found Prahalad’s vision inspiring and achievable. In more ways than one, CII’s current plans and initiatives tackle most of the goals presented by him. In his presentation, Prahalad said that India can and should actively shape the emerging world order. This demands that India must acquire enough economic strength, technological vitality and moral leadership.
Prahalad identified six big opportunities for India@75. These include India turning its population into a distinct advantage; becoming a home for at least 30 of Fortune 100 firms; accounting for 10 per cent of world trade; becoming a source for global innovations; focussing on the flowering of arts, science and literature and becoming the benchmark on how to cope with diversity. The renowned professor further said that these six opportunities when accomplished would change the influence of India on the world. CII is adopting a bottom-up approach to develop a comprehensive vision for India@75. The CII mission will draw an action plan for CII’s India@75 vision with focus on state level visions. A very important constituent for driving and setting the agenda will be the young Indians.
