India celebrates National Press Day
National Press Day (NPD) was observed in various states and New Delhi yesterday. In the union territory of Chandigarh, NPD was observed by organising a seminar on the topic "Indian Media - How Free and How Responsible?" by the Chandigarh Journalists' Association (CJA). The seminar was held at Chandigarh Press Club on Wednesday.

In Delhi, PM Narender Modi urged the press to self-regulate and he conferred the excellence in journalism awards to veteran journalist S. Nihal Singh on the occasion in the presence of Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajayvardhan Rathore.

Addressing the gathering at Vigyan Bhawan, Modi emphasized the importance of the freedom of press, free speech, and non-interference of the state in the working of the media.

He was of the view that the press could play a key role in informing the government to provide strength to the nation. He showed concern over increasing number of the killings of who try show the truth.
