India defeats Sri Lanka, but not convincingly
India defeated Sri Lanka in the ongoing tri series in Australia. India had to struggle to cross the finishing line. But, still they did with Jadeja and Ashwin batting with lots of responsibility in the end. Kohli top scored with 77 runs.

A WIN is a win, no matter how easy or hard the road to victory. India was in desperate need to win their match against Sri Lanka in their second ODI at Perth. They have been on the receiving end of the Australians for around 2 months now. The Indians though did not look great during the match, but were still victorious, thanks to a good batting effort by Virat Kohli, who top scored for India with 77 runs.  Ashwin and Jadeja also played good hands with the bat. India won the match by four wickets, reported Herald Sun.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Many of their batsmen got a good start to their innings, but they could not convert it into big scores, which was major drawback for them. Players such as Dilshan, Sangakkara, and Chandimal scored 48, 26 and 64 respectively. Sri Lanka put on 233 runs on the board. A. Matthews played an important role as he scored 33 runs from 28 balls. But one has to pat the back of the Indian bowlers, who took wickets at regular intervals. R. Ashwin was the best bowler for India taking three crucial wickets with an economy rate of only 3.2 runs per over.

The Indian openers, Sehwag and Tendulkar, walked into the crease expecting to give India a good start. But they lost their first wicket in the form of Virender Sehwag, who has looked out of touch in the series, so far. He only scored 10 runs. After which, the game was brought in a good position by Kohli and Tendulkar who were involved in a partnership of more than 70 runs. After Tendulkar’s dismissal, once again the middle order looked fragile and was soon 181 for the loss of six wickets. But it was R. Ashwin and Jadeja who combined together to cross the finishing line with 20 balls to spare. Ashwin was adjudged the man of the match for his all round performance scoring 30 runs and taking three wickets.

So India has got some points in the tournament, which could give them the much needed confidence for the rest of the series. Still, if India wants to win their match against Australia, they have to raise their bar. Though, there are many more matches to play in the ODI, but it is always a great booster to see the team getting off the mark in the points table.
