India defeats Sri Lanka, wins Compaq Cup
India bounced back in style after the heavy defeat it suffered in a group match and won the Compaq cup defeating Sri Lanka in a pulsating final match at Premadasa stadium in Colombo on Monday.
Powered by a brilliant century by Sachin Tendulkar and an equally brilliant bowling performance by Harbhajan Singh, who claimed five wickets, India won the Compaq Tri-series tournament at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Set against India's 319, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 273 in 46.4 overs.

Team India defeated the Sri Lankans by 46 runs, shrugging off a late charge lead by Thilina Kandamby, who gave a mighty scare to Indian bowlers, earlier tormented by Tilakaratne Dilshan.

Chasing a mammoth target of 320 runs, Sri Lanka started in style as Dilshan and veteran Jaisuraya  came out with all guns blazing. They managed to score fifty runs in just seven overs, with Dilshan belting the ball to all parts of the ground, unnerving the Indian bowlers and fielders.

Dilshan’s soiree was however brought to an end by the irrepressible, Harbhajan Singh, the sardar from Jalandhar, who bowled one of his finest spells against Sri Lanka to win the Compaq cup for India. Dilshan was clean bowled by Bhajji as he tried to cut him to the fence, which he was doing earlier with gay abandon against the Indian speedsters.

Harbhajan also claimed the wickets of Mahela Jayawardhana, Thilina Kandamby, Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis to claim five wickets.

Kandamby at one time looked to take away the match away from India along with Chamara Kapugedara, who also played well, however, it was Harbhajan’s day and he bowled the former, much to the delight of Indians.

Kapugedara’s wicket was earlier, claimed by Suresh Raina, who had him caught by skipper Dhoni and this wicket proved to be the match changer for India as both of them were threatening to change the course of the match.

Kumara Sangakara’s important wicket was claimed by RP Singh, whereas Ishant Sharma also chipped in with a wicket.
