India democracy should embrace capitalism in totality
A liberal capitalist democracy needs an active, vigilant population, making sure that the state does its job and does not turn tyrannical. But, human beings are not fully perfect in terms of their responsibilities.
NO ONE will refute the fact that what transformed United States over the decades is capitalism inspired by technological improvements. Even in India, since 1991, when reforms were introduced, and we had started moving towards a capitalist direction, we have obtained sustained economic growth, but we have not yet shed the socialist idea that government must provide everything.

Unfortunately, in India the government sector, the public sector, and the political sector are synonymous of each other. In fact, the political sector controls both the government sector and the public sector. In other countries, it is not so. A liberal capitalist democracy needs an active, vigilant population, making sure that the state does its job and does not turn tyrannical. But, human beings are not fully perfect in terms of their responsibilities. Our tendency is to sit back and complain quite often about the government. We don’t look at its virtues and focus our attention on its vices.

Most of us are not loyal to our nation. We get educated here, but go and settle abroad. When we live in a society, we have to look after each other. Why should we expect the government to do so? Once this is done, the political agenda would change towards to better schools, health care, and electricity reform. There is another fact in the context of politics. At the election times we persuade everyone we know to vote for the right persons in power, whose policies we approve. But how far are you certain that once the given politicians are elected, will he care to implement what we believe in.

In fact, human beings have tremendous capabilities, but if we get involved in politics, not only we live our proper life, but we are also not fulfilling our capabilities as human beings. There are many civil society initiatives. As citizens, we must get involved in these. This will surely make a difference in the whole fabric of the country.
