India faces threat from Chinese hackers
M K Narayanan has expressed serious concern over growing threat from China of cyber attacks on Indian government offices.

NATIONAL SECURITY adviser, M K Narayanan has expressed serious concern over growing threat from China of cyber attacks on Indian government offices. "People seem to be fairly sure it was the Chinese. It is difficult to find the exact source but this is the main suspicion. It seems well founded," he was quoted by the Wall Street Journal on Monday.

Suspicion has risen over Chinese hackers who have repeatedly “attempted to gain access to Indian government information”. The news comes in wake of warnings by US companies including Google Inc, of pulling out of China after facing series of cyber attacks.

Responding to the news, a spokesman of Chinese embassy in New Delhi was quoted as saying that “he wasn't aware of the statements” but added that "China is a legal country and hacking is very much against the law."

MK Narayanan said that “this was not the first instance of an attempt to hack into our computers." He said the recent hacking attempt, made through a virus sent by email in mid-Decemeber, was detected and eliminated by the Indian intelligence agencies.

India’s relation with China are going through a rough patch as the diplomatic war over a disputed east section area of China-India boundary in Arunachal Pradesh is still raging on.
