Communalism, unnecessary religious interference, regionalism, and other factionalisms are now becoming internal threat to India. Even the image of the country as mother is now looked with suspicion, the key slogans of freedom fight like Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram have been now used as communal and political identity by some vested interest groups.
Patriotism in independent India should have taken its new face to build the nation in a positive balanced way. But the political class in our country did not included patriots from the beginning; freedom fighters were given small pension and kept aside, as if their work is over!
And the new class that took over the reign of the country was from ex-zaminder, Raja/Rani, industrialists, company owners and rich class of the society. They paid their lip service to the martyrs, garlanded Gandhi Ji as ‘Father of Nation’ but their goal and objective was quite different!
They were not there to serve the country and develop countrymen, they were busy in development of their own lot and strengthen their party as the party became instrument for them to acquire power and harvest money. Soon the next generation of politicians forgot the country, even the word ‘Desh’ itself!
They are in chair for themselves only, for family and close relatives. Thus a culture of ‘political family’ a modern face of feudalism emerged everywhere in India. With the bright example of Nehru-Gandhis it is replicated as a most profitable affair in political power game, one can find them ruling states or Centre with full fledged colour!
Also some reminiscences of Raja-Rani zamindar are also present there. Rest of the places are mostly filled by people who have muscle power or money power, who can show muscle and win votes for the party or who can invest money to get back it! There are only few honest idealistic people in politics now; they are standing there just like most endangered species, destined to be extinct any time!
Obviously the colour of political class is reflecting in our country whether in financial, political-social or cultural life of the nation, also in the relationship with foreign countries.
Divide and rule as learned from colonial masters is a key strategy now for Indian politics. People are divided in the name of community, tribe, language, religion, caste and what not! Programs for poor people are doled out to perpetuate the poverty and to win their vote, confused education system without a moral backing, continuing illiteracy and ignorance matching with a chain of opportunity of earning money in unfair way is what the essence of Indian life today.
In this unjust scenario social evils like torture and exploitation of women, child and weak people is becoming rampant, other evils like violence, cheating common man, looting money etc are all branches of the same plant grown by immoral political power. All are in a strong labyrinth and we cannot remove even one symptom without addressing other and the whole situation. The question is if we want to free our country from corruption and ensure justice and equality that our constitution promises to people, how should we start? And from where to start?
How we can fight against corruption, if we cannot stop the dismissal of officials like Durga Shakti Nagpal? How to ensure unity of nation if we instigate formation of states on the basis of language or tribe/sect? How to reduce poverty if we do not have political will to reduce it actually? How to formulate an education policy if we do not wish our children to be moral in practice? How to fight Pakistan or China if we do not have proper foreign policy to handle a neighbor?
No doubt many more questions like these are in front of our nation and many are trying to find out a solution to these.
Anna Hazare is an example who inspired people towards patriotism but his steps also got confused, he announced for political challenge and he is not clearly able to support Kejriwal and AAP.
In this scenario Arvind Kejriwal is offering a new option to people to fight against corruption. Some are opting for a third front, some are standing with BJP inspired with new hope and new way with Narendra Modi, while some think Rahul the son of Gandhi family is the best one to follow!
Today if we really want a change from this unscrupulous situation we need a group of patriot to lead our nation: we need people who are true human being in heart and action! We need leaders who do not consider India a piece of land only to be divided among vested interest groups and exploit maximum advantage from it.
Rather we need a leader who will be able to feel the soul of the country with love and patriotism, who will see each soldier protecting the borders as his own son, who will dedicate to pangs of hunger, who will respect women and extend practical support to them, who will wish to see India as a leading nation and yet friend to other nations…this looks like a very big goal… at least in today’s India…. but one small yet simple step towards it, is love to country and countrymen ….Patriotism!
The biggest question today is not that should we vote for BJP, Congress or AAP or any other party, the question is that can we again start from where Gandhji, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and other the martyrs like them had led us and left us… can we continue on their legacy again and develop our country as a true democracy run by a people-friendly government?
