Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Ajay Makan, informed in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, September 8 about the approximate budget of Operation Excellence (OPEX 2012) for 2012 London Olympics.
IT IS now 322 days to go to the start of the London Olympics Games 2012. India, who won three medals including gold in Shooting and two bronze medals in Wrestling and Boxing events by Abhinav Bindra, Sushil Kumar and Vijender Kumar respectively in 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, has already started the preparations for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. So far, 15 sportspersons have qualified for participation in London Olympics, 2012 including five from athletics, eight from shooting and two from swimming.

For the preparation of Indian athletes for the London Olympics 2012, sports ministry has allotted Rs. 258.39 crores including Rs. 238.39 crores on preparations and Rs. 20 crores for foreign coaches. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) is expecting a haul of at least 10 medals in the 2012 London Olympics. Sports ministry has looked at medal prospects mainly in shooting and boxing, and sanctioned an estimated budget of 43.80 and 27.20 crores respectively for the period of 400 days for the players, coaches and support personnel.
The major Indian medal hopes in the London Olympics 2012 is expected from shuttler Saina Nehwal, shooters Tejaswini Sawant, Gagan Narang, Abhinav Bindra, boxer Vijender Kumar and female boxer Mary Kom and wrestler Sushil Kumar.
