India needs technology surveys
Vibrant education and modern infrastructure both require continued full support and thrust from the government for welcoming doable modern technology and cutting edge technology mainly in sectors like automotives, medicine and health care, etc.
FOR INDIA To be a prosperous nation, it needs more modern technology as well as cutting edge technology in almost all the sectors. I understand, currently, India is dependent on four categories of technologies, as given below:
  • In- house invented state of the art technology;
  • Borrowed old and outdated technology;
  • Doable modern technology; and
  • Cutting edge technology.
I am not sure whether any survey of any kind has been done throughout India as to what percentage of technology each of the above four categories occupy in general economic parlance. First let us try to understand the definition of each of the above modes of technology:
  • In-house invented state of the art technology: The state of the art is the highest level of development, as of a device, technique, or scientific field, achieved at a particular time. Keeping the cost aspect in view, there have been many discoveries invented in the past keeping the required needs focussed at a particular point of time. This invented technology has been passing on from generations to generations over a period of time. For example, there are many industries in India in the medium, small scale sectors and unorganised sectors where output is carried out using this technology.

  • Borrowed old and outdated technology: As the name goes, a technology borrowed from outside country at a throwaway price and then output derived through this technology. The car manufactured by Tatas known as Indica belongs to this model. The complete technology for manufacturing this car was purchased from an Europeran country.
  • Doable modern technology: An acceptable technology which is in vogue in foreign countries is also available in our country for manufacturing goods and services. For example, robots working in some of the semi automatic plants could be a pointer.
  • Cutting edge technology: The latest and most modern technology (sort of a leading technology at this moment), which does away with many of the manual repetitive and cumbersome processes come under this technology. In software technology India, is doing great by embracing cutting edge technology.
Level of education attained is directly responsible for embracing newer and cutting edge technologies. However, it does not mean those who are average educated or least educated can be barred from using the cutting edge technologies; for achieving these, the processes need to be simplified through well thought out training modules.

Vibrant education and modern infrastructure both require continued full support and thrust from the government for welcoming doable modern technology and cutting edge technology mainly in sectors like automotives, medicine and health care, bio technology and in various other sectors as well. If a proper survey is done as to the different types of technologies used wide across different sectors will help the country chalk out a better plan in future for embracing newer technologies. The image of the country will keep getting a big boost with the adoption of newer and best cutting edge technologies in different sectors.
