India-New Zealand Test series is a chance for youngsters to excel
The upcoming India New Zealand Test series would be a chance for youngsters to prove themselves and cement their place in the Indian middle order, after the retirement of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid. The Indian team is expected to win the series.

THE INDIAN team is scheduled to play a two-match Test match series against the New Zealand side starting August 23rd 2012. Everyone expects the Indian team to win the series against New Zealand, as Indians have been known for their dominance under home conditions. Chetan Chauhan, a former Indian batsman, told this CJ, “India should win the series.” India, in spite of some major absentees, such as Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, are expected to do well. The series could prove to be a great chance for youngsters to perform and establish themselves in the team.

A young Indian cricket fan, Shiv Sunny, believes that the Test series is going to be a cakewalk for the Indian team. He adds, “There are many players fighting for various spots in the Indian team.” The Indian team would have a new look middle order after two stalwarts of the game, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman retired from the game recently. Bishan Singh Bedi, a former told this CJ, "Youngsters have to grab the opportunity.

But the true test of these youngsters does not lie on the slow pitches in India. It would be easier to score runs on the docile pitches against a non-potent New Zealand attack, but when it comes to scoring runs overseas, the Indian players have their task cut out. Hence, their pure test lies in the future when they play against the Aussies and the Englishmen on their home grounds.

Some of the players who must have been eying that middle order spot are Suresh Raina, C. Pujara, Badrinath, Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma. The first three players are included in the current squad to play New Zealand. The other two have not made it due to different reasons, but they are also on the reckoning for the long run. Among all the Indian youngsters, only Virat Kohli can take his place for granted. Virat Kohli, according to Chetan Chauhan will excel in the series , as he is in tremendous form.

But we also cannot count out the Black Caps completely. Bedi says, I have no idea about how good the New Zealand side are. ”But considers the Indian team to be favourites for the series. The Indian team also has to be careful and cannot afford to come up with lacklustre performance, as New Zealand also has some players such as B. McCullum, Kane Williamson, M. Guptill, R. Taylor who are good enough batsmen to create an upset against the Indians. To make things worse, India does not have a great bowling line up. Bowlers are below the international level. They have a lot to prove, says Bedi. So, will this series be yet another one, where one has to be dependent on the Indian batsmen for a victory? But things are different now, as we no longer have the great middle order, which was the pride of our batting line up too. As Chauhan puts it, “It depends on the performance of the youngsters.
