India observes International Music Day today
International Music Day (IMD) is being observed in many countries today including India. In some other countries, it is observed in the month of June.

The observance was initiated on the 1st of October in 1975 by Lord Yehudi Menuhin and was popularised by the International Music Council (IMC) which was founded by UNESCO and presently is world's largest network of organisations, institutions and individuals in the field of music.

The observance is meant to respect, promote and foster musical diversity in around 150 countries for peace and amity among people of diverse cultures and heritage.

The main aim of IMD is 'to create a global atmosphere of music, a platform for people to come together with their diversities and mingle to make one unified whole' since it 'defines and completes a perfect human social and aesthetic experience', as calendarlabs.com puts it.

English daily the Times of India (TOI) marked the occasion with some letters of its title replaced by animals playing percussion and wind instruments along with symbol of music in between.

It has shown a lion, a bird, an elephant, and snake and a fox playing musical instruments printed on selected letters of the title.
