India of my dreams: Clean politics, clean surroundings, sound laws
A pall of gloom befalls a Political party office as the news of misconduct of some of their party workers, reaches them. In an emergency meeting the party seniors resolve to adopt a no-tolerance policy towards the errant workers, now and in future, and therefore announces their suspension for six months during which they have to do reported social service of their choice but under strict vigilance of the relevant arm of the party. The errant workers in a fit of fury outraged the modesty of a woman worker of another party, bringing shame to their own party members. SNAP!!..

Wow! that was a dream that I woke up with this morning. I woke up with a smile to see the politicians upholding human values..Somewhere at least…even if it’s in my dreamland!

But no. I am expecting nothing from and am complaining about nothing against the people who are elected for us, by us and of us. What do I understand of this line that has been imprinted deep in my psyche since early childhood. Today I feel it was a waste of time mugging it up, a completely devastated concept of ‘Democracy’.

The politicians, a totally detached lot, could be belonging to any party but speak the same language. They love and hate amongst their genre. Their entourage isolates them from us. Their smug visage in the face of disasters, their impersonal consolations, and of course ‘inquiry committees’ that mushroom with every crime caught on camera has built a strong cemented wall between them and us, the common people, who belong neither to their elitist life styles nor to the lowest segment of the society.

I am a dreamer! I want to struggle and achieve success through honest means keeping my self-respect intact and also get a chance to enjoy my achievements. Yes, that is a dream that may not come true in my motherland, every enhancement in my income gets negated by the ever spiraling prices. I don’t belong to the lower segment of society nor to the higher. I am sandwiched .. I am neither the recipient of easy food nor one of easy money.

This is what I dream of :

  • Clean surroundings, no slush stench during monsoons..smooth roads, bearable prices..and.. my dreams go higher and higher..
  • I even want to feel sheltered in my city, especially when I see the law enforcers..I want juveniles also to be held responsible of their heinous acts ..Especially when their acts lead to deaths..
  • I dream of not only new laws being made but strictly executed or the old ones re-shaped and speaking the current language.. laws not so exaggerated that they attract bribes..but to be enforced to truly prevent crime....Whew!!..Thats a hell of a lot to ask I know.

My dreamland has no place for Aliens, who project a sympathetic outlook but have no idea what a single day of my life is like. I want “Politicians’..educated..aware..realistic..believing in spirituality and not in religion as a factional tool..who should be capable enough to debate in a civil manner with each other and respect the parliament... who have substance in them and bring up their kins not only be bollywood stars or cricket players but join the Army and protect the nation.

When I try snapping out of my dreams I see that I am stuck in a traffic jam..that too seems a way of life complaints..BUT..the jam holds back so many of us on a fairly smooth traffic area because there is a convoy of 10-12 cars that needs clear and’ safe’ passage.

So many SUVs and huge cars for protection of one person, whereas I feel the financial burden of maintaining my one mid-sized car..OUCH! pains because the taxes that I am threatened to pay on time is manifested in little else other than protection and extravagance of people who over use facilities with the least bit of modesty. My Bharat is yet to be Mahaan..
