There has been a downpour of tributes towards the king of pop Michael Jackson since his mysterious death. India has been no different. On the occasion of his 51st birthday, tributes in various forms would be held for the iconic figure across India.
TRIBUTES TOWARDS the king of pop have not stopped flowing in, since the world was shocked by his mysterious death this June. Since then, there has been a downpour of grief and remembrances, as his fans the world over attempt to pay him final respects with tributes. India has been no different.
Come this Saturday (August 29), tributes in various forms would be held for the iconic figure in all prominent cities across India. While some have chosen to hum along with his music, others would be emulating his moves, including the moonwalk and the robot – attempting in their own ways to pay their respects to Jacko. He would have turned 51 on this Saturday.
The city would hold a musical carnival to celebrate the legendary singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, producer and choreographer. The music show entitled 'Heavens Can Wait', would have Bangalore's and Chennai's most popular bands, including Lounge Piranha, Rusty Moe, Slain, Public Issue and E-flat. The bands would give their renditions of Jackson's most popular numbers, including the humanitarian, 'Heal the world' along with some of their songs.
Held at Mother Tekla Auditorium, Casa Brigatta on Brunton Road, the gig promises to be a sell out.
Music fans here too promise to hold extravaganzas to behold. On the music front, Delhi based bands, Aryans, Bandish and Groove Adda would commemorate Jackson's birthday with a performance at the Siri Fort Auditorium in Khel Gaon, on Friday (August 28) from 7 pm onwards.
For those who can't get enough of his dance moves, Zenith- The Dance Company would hold a special performance, featuring over sixty dancers at DLF Place, Saket on Saturday (August 29) from 6:30pm onwards.
There are also events of different nature. While a look alike competition is being held at Manre, MGF Metropolitan Mall, Saket, patrons of Food Talk at Select City Walk, Saket would be serenaded with Jackson's hit songs by the band Simple Truth on Saturday (August 29) and Unplugged Sockets on Sunday (August 30).
Chennai would hold a charity concert to mark the occasion. Held at the Wesley School Grounds, Royapettah in Chennai, all proceeds of the event titled 'Michael Jackson tribute concert – Heal the World' will be donated to the Autism Society of India in aid of Autism Awareness.
Many playback singers would perform in the three hour long concert, including Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, Srinivas, Benny Dayal, Kartik, Blaaze, Hariharan, Sanjeev Thomas, Kavitha Belagi. The KM Conservatory of Music Faculty, Andrea Jeremiah Trio and Selvaganesh would also perform at the event.
