THE MALEVOLENCE of corruption is one of the biggest perils this beautiful land faces, though there are numerous laws to scuttle the menace. Those in the corridors of power are well aware with the loopholes to save their skin; they use their clout best in their own interest. While other namely big shots from the world of business, sports, academic and many more use their political nexus to ditch government either in saving illegal tax or amassing wealth disproportionate to known assets.

Transparency International a non-government organisation working to curb corruption has released its list of countries with clean or bad image in the context of corruption. The corruption watch dog is headed by former naval chief R H Tahiliani, according to the list. New Zealand is the cleanest nation in the world, it is followed by Denmark and Singapore, while five most corrupt nations in the ladder of 180 are Somalia, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sudan and Iraq. World’s biggest democracy and emerging economy India too faired badly, it is placed at poor 84th in the list.

The corruption watch dog also condemned tax heavens like Swiss Bank and said, “Corrupt money must not find safe haven. It is time to put an end to secrecy in banking laws."

When it comes to corruption, our nation has time and again thrown very interesting corruption scam, recent being money laundering to the tune of Rs 4000 crore by former chief minister of Jharkhand Madhu Koda, some of the other includes Lakhubhai Pathak cheating case, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha bribery case involving Shibu Soren, telecom involving former Union Minister Sukh Ram, fodder scam involving Lalu Prasad Yadav and Taj corridor involving Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.
